For ancient history and archaeology buffs, Pompeii is one of the premier sites to explore in the world.

As part of a 5 year, $250,000 partnership with the World Monuments Fund, Grand Circle Foundation donated $50,000 in 1999 to help maintain and preserve Pompeii for future generations.

When Mount Vesuvius erupted on this thriving resort town in A.D. 79, volcanic ashes entombed the city. Pompeii remained buried until 1748, when explorers unearthed this ancient Roamn town that appeared much as it was the day it was buried. Surprisingly, still intact were entire city blocks, beautiful wall frescoes and floorings, and thousands of furnishings and household items that Romans once used in their daily lives.
