The Coral Nursey Program (CNP) optimizes reef coral propagation and planting techniques suited to the Great Barrier Reef.  The CNP in partnership with reef dive operators and supported by GCF will provide training in techniques to expand upon existing sustainable reef management activities.

It encompasses both protection of sites where coral cover is good as well as rehabilitation of sites (or small areas within sites).

The Coral Nursery Program is currently the largest coral propagation and out-planting program on the Great Barrier Reef and the only one that has been through a rigorous development stage to avoid environmental risks.

If enough coral is planted in a coordinated way with scientific supervision it can create a network of sites that are larval sources and refuges from extreme warm weather events.

Although no longer a partner, the GCF funding provided will help plant almost 200,000 corals over the next 2 years across 10 sites.
