For the 143 children and 12 staff at Los Cardenales in Ecuador, partnership with Grand Circle Foundation is already showing positive signs.  Our first project to support this small school was to provide metal tables and chairs to create a small dining hall.  This will allow the children a functional space for their meals.

Recently GCF funded a rooftop garden at this school.  The students will be growing both medicinal and edible plants such as thyme, lettuce, Swiss chard, mint and rosemary among others.

The children will research the benefits of these plants and learn how to apply this knowledge in their daily lives and communities.  They will also study the entire cultivation process , including soil preparation, planting techniques and the proper care of the different plant varieties.

The garden will serve as both a source of food, medicinal applications and as a hands on learning space where students develop agricultural knowledge and environmental stewardship.
