Grand Circle Foundation is very excited about our new partnership with SANGO-Kenya, to bring food security to Amboseli, Kenya.

SANGO-Kenya provides smallholder women farmers with training in sustainable agriculture, nutrition, and livelihoods to enhance food and nutrition security in their households and communities. SANGO-Kenya began in 2020 in one village in Seme sub-county Kisumu County, Kenya, with 19 farmers. With the expansion into Amboseli, they are training or have trained nearly 800 farmers in 13 villages, directly strengthening the food and nutrition security of more than 5,000 women, children, and other household members.

Our partnership will provide a 2 year training program for 120 women farmers over 3 years.  The first group of 30 women farmers will begin in year one and the second group of 90 farmers will begin in year two.  After two years in the program, farmers will graduate from the program with the skills and knowledge to continue growing, consuming and marketing vegetables.

This first group of 30 farmers has already started their training, which will be focusing on:

  • Organic methods for growing organic African traditional vegetables,
  • The nutritional benefits of the vegetables,
  • Preparation methods to preserve the nutritional benefits, and
  • Basic marketing of surplus vegetables

The first part of training is how to establish an organic compost which will become the basis of the rich materials used in the vertical farms to come.
