Doc Hendley, the founder of Wine to Water, plans to bring 12,000 portable water filters to Ukraine.

An update from Alan & Harriet Lewis

Since 2018, Grand Circle Foundation has partnered with Wine to Water to support our WASH (Water, And Sanitation, Hygiene) initiative bringing clean water to remote villages in Tanzania, Laos, Cambodia, and the Amazon. This year, in recognition of World Water Day on March 22, we’re bringing you an update on how Wine to Water is bringing clean water to Ukraine.

Wine to Water is committed to supporting life and dignity for all through the power of clean water. Their filter build program is an opportunity for groups and organizations to assemble filters, strengthen corporate social responsibility, and become educated about the world water crisis. Each filter removes 99.9999 percent of bacteria which cause waterborne diseases and provides an entire family with clean water for more than 10 years.

They also reserve 20% of all filters built to be used for disaster relief efforts—which are needed now more than ever as the crisis in Ukraine unfolds. Doc Hendley, the founder of Wine to Water, is working with Grand Circle Foundation to distribute 12,000 water filters in Ukraine, which can produce 2.4 million gallons of clean water a day.

With infrastructure and supply chains disrupted in the region, people are depending on surface water from rivers, rain, or untreated sources. Filters give families and shelters a way to prevent waterborne illnesses common in war and refugee camps. Also, Wine to Water filters avoid dependencies on single use plastics which add to the environmental disaster created by a global crisis.

We donated $100,000 to Doc which he will match dollar for dollar for a total of $200,000 for filters. David, a member of the Wine to Water team, has arrived in Bucharest, Romania and is working with Trip Experience Leader Stefan Mototolea to distribute the filters where they are needed most.

We’re so thankful for Wine to Water’s support of Ukraine and for our travelers and associates who have donated more than $1.4 million to help. As long there’s work to be done, Grand Circle Foundation will continue accepting donations. 100% of your donation goes directly to help displaced Ukrainians.
