We're making progress toward our agricultural cooperative in Don Chum Village,
but we still need your help to plant crops and create jobs
"We can't speak much English, but the best language is smiles on faces." So says Mr. Me Manop, the chief of the Senior Citizen's Center in Thailand's Don Chum Village. Thanks to the generosity of our travelers and associates, the residents of Don Chum have plenty to smile about: We've surpassed our first goal of $2000 for our agricultural cooperative, and we're just $220 from our Phase 2 goal of $5000. Now we're looking forward to Phase 3.
Help us reach our next goal of $6500, which will fund the construction of a well and the cooperative shop at the senior center; additional fish and chickens; and a seed bank for local farmers.
Once, the members of this center were hungry and out of work—no longer physically able to tend their farmlands and a great distance away from the nearest market. An agricultural cooperative is a sustainable solution that will create jobs and put food on the table. "Grand Circle Foundation has supported and changed this village for the better," says Mr. Manop.
Already, the members of the senior center are working to care for chickens and catfish, which
will be sold locally—in the village, not the city. Our recent fundraising will provide local crops like hearty greens, mushrooms, and beans for the cooperative to grow and sell. But there is still much more to be done.
Help stimulate the economy of this village by making a donation.
The Foundation charges no administrative fee, so 100% of your tax-deductible donation will go straight to Mr. Manop and the people of Don Chum Village.
