Grand Circle associates roll up their sleeves for Massachusetts General Hospital
Massachusetts
General Hospital (MGH) estimates that one in ten of their admitted patients will need a blood transfusion—each of whom could require anywhere from one to one hundred units of blood. While life-saving technology has certainly advanced in the 60 years since the hospital established its Blood Donor Center, finding enough volunteers to roll up their sleeves and donate is as crucial—and challenging—as ever. So on March 4, 2010, the MGH bloodmobile pulled up to Grand Circle headquarters and welcomed associates to give a pint to save lives.
It's been an annual tradition for Grand Circle and MGH since 1999—and thanks to the impressive number of associates who have been willing to participate, Grand Circle has become one of the top donating companies in Boston. This recent drive was no exception, with 72 associates signed up—21 of whom were giving to MGH fo
r the very first time. "Because of Grand Circle's support this year, we'll be able to help more than 150 patients," says Kim Cronin, Manager of Donor Services at MGH. "Thank you for helping to give them another chance at life." All told, 1,053 Grand Circle associates have donated their blood to MGH since 1999—which has impacted the lives of 3,159 patients.
As rewarding as it is to have such a direct impact on the life of another, few people would consider giving blood an enjoyable experience—but Grand Circle associates approach the event with characteristic spirit and humor. "We always have a great time with Grand Circle," says Kim. "The staff comments on how upbeat and fun everyone is. We look forward to working with them again." And Grand Circle associates, too, will be at the ready and waiting in 2011, rolling up their sleeves for another chance to save lives.
